The Social Network

The Social Network

A Film Review By: David Ramirez

★★★★/★★★★

The Social Network also known as the FaceBook movie is the true story of the founding of one of the biggest and many will say the most addictive website. The story is one the deal’s with many different things; from friendship, betrayal and the legacy we leave behind.

The cast consist of young up and coming actors - Jesse Eisenberg (Zombie Land) and  Andrew Garfield  (Never Let Me Go). These young actors take on the task of telling the story and let me say they do it in away that insure we will be seeing them in movie’s for years to come.

Eisenberg Plays Mark Zuckerberg the founder of facebook and the main character of the movie. Eisenberg’s portrayal of Zuckerberg starts off as if he’s an asshole, but as the film progressives we find out that he is simply insecure. Do to the way Eisenberg plays it, we genially care about the character and in a way you start to root for him.  Zuckerberg is so one sided in his vision and goal of what he wants that we truly believe he will go to any lengths to achieve his plans. Its because of this one sided vision and Eisenbergs portal that Zuckerberg may even inspire you from time to time.

Enter in Co-founder and at one time CFO of FaceBook played by Andrew Garfield. Garfield plays his role to perfection, as you’re watching the film you start to believe that he truly is an economics major who not only has the business side of things, but also shares a strong mutual friendship with Mark. The interactions between these two young men is fantastic, Garfield many times emotions will range from worrying to frustration and Eisenberg always seems to have that "I don’t give a shit attitude". The interactions seem so natural and unforced, that it is one of the key qualities to this mesmerizing film.

David Fincher filmed it in such a way that it cuts from legal litigation scenes to flashbacks at Harvard and he does so with perfection seamlessness. Also the fact that we have two different litigations going on at the same time and he transitions back and fourth from those with the greatest of ease and no confusion.

The music done by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) is also a very interesting mix. It blends so perfectly with the movie that it doesn’t take away from a scene, no matter the circumstance.

The Social Network is arguably one of the best movies of the year. You will leave the theater feeling so many different things that you may want to see it twice. Eisenberg and Garfield and great young talents that I look forward to seeing again and I can’t wait to see what David Fincher brings us next.
